The 2003 winners of the Saskatchewan Junior Citizen of the Year awards were announced by the Saskatchewan Weekly Newspapers Association (SWNA), of which the Weyburn Review is a member. The recipients are Cassandra Simpson of Carnduff, Joshua Noble of Evesham, Jamie Tinker of Pinehouse Lake and Lyndon Graff of Neudorf. Each Junior Citizen will be presented by SaskPower with a $3,000 bursary for post-secondary education. In addition, the SaskEnergy Community Spirit Award of $500 will be presented to Theresa Eppich of Handel. All five award winners will be recognized at a banquet to be held in their honour on Friday, Sept. 19 in Saskatoon. Lieutenant-Governor Lynda Haverstock will present the Junior Citizens with their medallions and plaques. The banquet will be part of the SWNA's annual convention. The award was created in 1976 to recognize young people for their positive lifestyles, community and school spirit, and a strong sense of caring and responsibility. Past winners included Brent Allin and Vincent Ballenas of Weyburn. |
