The Weyburn Comprehensive School's debate club held their organizational meeting, and organizers were happy that over 25 students turned out. The WCS Drama Club were also overwhelmed with the turnout for their first drama call. Auditions for "M*A*S*H" will be held this week, with a production date in November. The magazine campaign was a success, as students surpassed their goal of 1,200 subscriptions by a wide margin. Prizes will be given out to the top sellers and top grade, and the administration will have to do something special for the student body. The parents' night and first school dance of the year were both well-attended. The football team is off to their best start in many years, after they won their third straight game on Saturday against Regina Martin. The next game is on Saturday, Sept. 27, at 1 p.m. at Darold Kot against Regina Usher. Carter Hilkewich is the Southeast district golf champion, winning this honour at the Southeast championships held at the Weyburn Golf Club. He will advance to he SHSAA provincial championship in Prince Albert this weekend, with the possibility of claiming the crown previously won by Weyburn's Graham DeLaet a couple of years ago. Brad Wallin placed fourth and the team was a close second behind Estevan. The girls volleyball teams hosted a tournament over the weekend, with the senior girls defeating the junior girls in the semi-finals before losing to Lucky Lake in the final. This weekend the split squad will compete in tournaments at Regina Winston Knoll and Estevan. The senior boys volleyball team lost to Regina Campbell in the gold medal game in Estevan. They will compete in a tournament in Lumsden this weekend. The junior boys placed third in their pool at a tournament hosted in Rouleau. The Comp soccer team placed first in the fourth tier of a tournament in Moose Jaw over the weekend, and they will play Moose Jaw Vanier this Thursday before going to Swift Current this weekend. |
