Four Weyburn students will have an expense-paid trip to Moose Jaw this weekend, as they will be showing off their Heritage Fair projects at a provincial showcase. This is the first time such a showcase will be held in Saskatchewan, to highlight additional projects that were done well on the province's heritage; the top projects from last year's regional heritage fair went to a national fair this past summer, including one from Assiniboia Park School. On Friday morning, Taylor Verbeurgt and Ciara Wallin will accompany their project on Weyburn children's author Joanne Bannatyne-Cugnet and artist Yvette Moore, while Michael Onstad and Lauren Ward will bring their project on the history of the Souris Valley Extended Care Centre. Taylor and Ciara are now in Grade 5 at Assiniboia Park, while Michael and Lauren have since moved on to Grade 7 at the Weyburn Junior High. The four students will have a busy schedule on Friday and Saturday, with tours planned of the tunnels, the trolley, the historical museum and the art museum, along with fun activities like a gala banquet and swimming. The projects will be on display at the showcase, which will be open to the public on Saturday afternoon from 1-4 p.m. in the Heritage Pavilion on the exhibition grounds in Moose Jaw. The accommodations and meals will be provided for the four students by Heritage Fairs Historica. |
