The Weyburn Redcoat Rams split a two-game home stand with the Yorkton Terriers over the weekend to improve their season record to 2-1. The Terriers came out banging and crashing in Game 1, with both teams battling to a 2-2 tie after two periods. Although Weyburn outshot and outchanced their opponents for most of the game, they couldn't bring in another goal, especially on the power play. Yorkton, however, capitalized on their chances and scored three unanswered goals in the third period, capturing a 5-2 victory. Goal scorers for the Rams were Richard Metke and Brad Riege, who also picked up an assist. Blake Hill did a good job tending net for Weyburn. In Game 2, Weyburn routed the Terriers 9-1, allowing only one goal by Yorkton in the first period. Riege and Sterling LaBatte each netted two goals apiece, while Brad Ehr, Keith Aulie, Shaun Stroeder, Blaine Tendler and Richard Metke scoring singles. Assists went to Braydon Regier, Tyler Penny, Reid Paterson and Metke. Rams goalie Kayley Herman was solid in net, as Yorkton was only able to beat her once. The Rams started their 2003-2004 season with a win, defeating the Estevan Bruins by a 6-2 count in their home-opener on Oct. 4. The next action for the Redcoat Rams will be this weekend when they travel to Swift Current for a two-game tilt against the hometown Broncos. This year's roster of the Rams include Sterling LaBatte, Tyler Penny, Kayley Herman, Keith Aulie, Braydon Regier, Dylan Spencer, Reid Paterson, Brad Riege, Richard Metke, Brad Ehr, Shaun Stroeder, Adam Shirkie, Blaine Tendler, Nathan Deck, David Wagner, Zach Watson and Blake Hill. The coaching staff includes Mike Spencer, Mark Penny, Larry Paterson and trainer Shane Watson. |
