The heat wave that hit Weyburn during the first weeks of October broke the previous records on five separate days and tied an earlier record on one other day According to information gathered at the city's water filtration plant for Environment Canada, high temperatures set on Oct. 5, 7, 18, 19, and 21 broke previous records, and the temperature on Oct. 6 tied with an earlier record. On Oct. 5, the daily high of 26.5C beat a previous record of 24.5C set in 1980, and tied in 1984 and 1993. On Oct. 6, the daily high of 28.5 tied a record set in 1980. On Oct. 7, the high of 28.5 broke a record of 25.5 set in 1980 and tied in 1991. On Oct. 18, the daily high of 26.5 broke a record set in 1963 and tied in 2000. On Oct. 19, the high of 28 C broke a record of 24 C, set in 1978, and on Oct. 21, the high of 24.5 broke a record of 23.5 set in 1986. The average high temperature over the past 10 years in October has been 11.5C for the month of October. The long-term running average temperature for the month, over the past 50 years, was 11.9C. The mean maximum temperature in October was 15.5, with a mean minimum temperature of 0.4C. The lowest temperature last month, when the weather changed, was -14 C on Oct. 31. The average low temperature in October over the past 10 years as -1.3 C, and over the past 50 years was -1.2 C. The total precipitation during October was 23.8 mm0, compared to the 50-year running average of 21.4 mm and the last 10-year average of 27.9 mm. The highest precipitation ever recorded during October was 82.6 mm in 1998 and the lowest was a trace amount recorded in 1965. |
