The Town and Country Women held their monthly meeting Oct. 20 at the home of Kathryn Groshong in Weyburn with seven members present. Donations were given to the United Way Communithon and the Brokenshell 4-H Club. President Vie Flaten chaired the meeting. Thought for the day was "There are hundreds of languages in the world, but a smile speaks them all". The Club took part in the Charity Bazaar at the mall. The raffle of the harvest basket was won by Maureen Reinfelds and the crocheted hangers were won by Judy Buzowetsky. The Lap Robe Project will continue over the winter months. Roll call was "A way each of us can do something to better the lives of those less fortunate". The program was International Relations given by the convenor, Kathryn Groshong. She showed a scrapbook of the most 'international' event she had even attended, the 17th Triennial Conference of the Associated Countrywomen of the World (ACWW) held in Vancouver in 1983. She sang in the 100-voice Canadian choir with singers from every province. Edna Jennings, Irene Halvorson and Elaine Driver from this area also sang in the choir and Mildred Nelson took part in the convention proceedings. ACWW has eight million members with homemakers in 60 countries around the world at that time. The ACWW was formed in 1933 and presently, 70 years later, by volunteer effort, they work to raise the standard of living, to promote international friendship and understanding and be a voice in international affairs around the world. |
