Rams go 1-1 with Bruins, Notre Dame

The Weyburn Redcoat Rams defeated the Estevan Bruins 5-3 on Sunday, making up for a 9-1 loss to the Notre Dame Hounds last Wednesday.

Weyburn played a solid opening 40 minutes against the Bruins, outshooting and outscoring Estevan 4-1 after two periods.

With a three-goal lead, the Rams eased up in the third period, allowing Estevan to nearly tie the game with two more goals before Weyburn responded two minutes before the end to stop the Bruins' attack.

Blake Hill played well for Weyburn, stopping 13 Estevan shots for the win.

Tyler Penny scored two goals and an assist against Estevan, with Adam Shirkie, Braydon Regier and Brad Riege contributing the remaining goals.

Blaine Tendler and Riege each had two assists, while Richard Metke and Zach Watson each contributed one.

Weyburn's worst loss of the season was suffered against the Hounds in Wilcox, as Midale native Shaun Stroeder scored Weyburn's only goal, assisted by Reid Paterson. Weyburn goalie Kayley Herman suffered her third loss of the season.

"You won't beat good teams if you don't come mentally prepared to play, and tonight we proved it," said Rams coach Mike Spencer.

The next home action for the Rams is Sunday, Nov. 30, when they host Melville at the Colosseum. Game time is at 2 p.m.
