November temperature colder, drier than usual

November was colder and drier than past Novembers in the last 10 years, even breaking one cold-temperature record on Nov. 26.

According to records gathered by at the City of Weyburn's water filtration plant for Environment Canada, the temperature dropped to -26C that day, lower than the earlier record of -25.5C set in 1991.

The long-term running average for the previous 50 years is -9.7C, while the average low in Nov. 2003 was -15.1C. The lowest temperature ever recorded in November is -34C, set in 1978.

The lowest temperature in November, at -27C, was set on Nov. 23, while the maximum, at 4C, was set on Nov. 28.

Highs during the month came nowhere near record-breaking temperatures.

The average high was -5.1C, compared to a 10-year average of 0.4C and a 50-year average high of 0.9C. The highest temperature set in November in the past 50 years was 24C, recorded in 1975 and 1999.

The city received 14.6 mm of water equivalent during November, compared to a record high precipitation of 101 mm in 2000 and a record low precipitation of 0.3 mm in 1974.

The 10-year average is 25.7 mm. for the month, with a 50-year average for November of 15.2 mm.
