Nature Society to take part in bird count

The Weyburn Nature Society will participate in Saskatchewan's annual Christmas bird count on Tuesday, Dec. 16.

Members and other interested persons will meet at the Main Track Cafe at 9 a.m. before heading out to survey the city and immediate area for about three hours.

Society spokesman Dick Gutfriend said Monday anyone is welcome to participate and the only requirement is warm clothing. A set of binoculars and a bird book would be useful to help people identify the birds, he said. Some walking may be necessary if the birders find a larger grove of trees but much of the identification is done from a vehicle, he said

About 30 people usually participate. Results are tabulated and included in the provincial total.
