The WCS Food Fight ended on Friday with the winner being the Weyburn Food Bank, with 3,970 items donated by the students of WCS. The Period 5 room winner was Brenda King's room. Over 500 people enjoyed the two-hour Weyburn Comprehensive School's annual Winter Music Concert held on Wednesday night in the Cafetorium. The music ranged from the jazz band's rendition of "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" to the concert band's concert march, "The Garnet and Gold" and the seasonal "Once Upon a Christmas" medley by the STARS choir, and the Grade 10 choir's humourous "Merry Christmas, Mozart," the Grade 11/12 choir's "An African Celebration" and the combined choirs' rendering of "Angels' Gloria." The grand finale had all 181 music students performing "A Holiday Sing-Along." The bands were conducted by Larry Balog and Colleen Weimer conducted the choirs. On the weekend, both the senior boys and junior girls basketball teams won tournaments in Prince Albert and Weyburn respectively, and the senior girls posted a 1-2 record at their home tournament. These were the last tournaments for 2003, with basketball action to resume on Jan. 9-10, 2004. As this is the final week of school before Christmas, the annual student Christmas assembly will be held on Friday, Dec. 19. The Blitzen Ball Christmas dance was held on Friday evening. |
