The Fillmore Falcons senior boys volleyball team were presented the provincial Sportsmanship banner for 2003 by the Saskatchewan High Schools Athletic Association (SHSAA) on Friday. Larry Lafrentz, executive director of the SHSAA, was on hand at 33 Central School in Fillmore to personally hand over the Saskatchewan Dairy Producer's sportsmanship banner to the team. The presentation took place in the gymnasium of 33 Central, before an assembly of students, parents and community members. Earlier this year, the Falcons had won a bronze medal at the boys A provincial volleyball championships in Prince Albert. Although they didn't get into the top two placings, they showed exemplary behaviour and attitude. This caught the attention of the three bodies in charge of selecting nominees for the good sportsmanship award - the officials, the host school and a representative of the SHSAA itself. Lafrentz informed the assembly the banner is a prestigious award, and a reflection on the school itself. |
