RM gets dog control for N. Weyburn

Trustees serving on the board of the Rural Municipality of Weyburn are hoping a new dog control bylaw passed at the board's meeting Dec. 16 will do what the residents of North Weyburn need.

"We don't usually get a lot of calls about stray dogs running around the area, but there were lots of concerns this summer in North Weyburn," said RM administrator Kim McIvor on Thursday.

"The RM received a request from the hamlet to see if we could do something about the problem."

It took three months to get the new process in place, said McIvor, but now the Weyburn Humane Society will serve as the RM's pound and dogcatcher.

The RM has agreed to accept a charge of $50 for each call.

"We were very happy they said they would do it," said McIvor.

In other business, the RM agreed to pay the annual $75 cost of joining the Regina district of the Association of Rural Municipalities.

There are benefits to the RM from membership, said McIvor.
