The St. Michael School Tigers boys' basketball team played their first tournament of the new year at Yorkton Regional High School over the weekend. It was a tournament composed primarily of Grade 9-10 teams, so the Tigers weren't expected to pull out any big upsets, said coach Denis Tremblay. The Tigers lost their first game to Yorkton Sacred Heart by roughly 30 points. Their second match, to another Grade 9-10 team from Fort Qu'Appelle, ended in a loss by half that number of points; their final match, versus Canora, was a loss by only four points. Though the Tigers didn't bring home a victory, the scores indicated the team "got stronger as the weekend wore on," said Tremblay. "I'm quite pleased with what I'm seeing as far as effort The guys are starting to work together more." This Saturday, Jan. 17, the boys host a doubleheader in conjunction with the Weyburn Junior High. They host Radville at 10 a.m. and Fillmore at 2 p.m. Meanwhile, the Tiger girls' team played a game yesterday, Jan. 13, versus Radville. Results are not available due to publication deadlines. The girls are off to a tournament in White City on Saturday. |
