Celebrating Flag Day

Tiffany Culbertson watches as Jesse Post shakes Const. Darren Dodge's hand, after the RCMP officer handed him a Canadian flag to mark National Flag Day. Const. Dodge visited the Grade 7 classroom at the Weyburn Junior High on Thursday in his formal red serge uniform, and answered questions about the history of the Canadian flag as well as about life in the national police force. National Flag Day was on Feb. 15, the date the current flag was adopted by the federal government in 1965.

Turning the Elks into rubble

A power shovel pushes on the remains of the Elks Hall during demolition of the facility on Thursday. The hall was reduced to a pile of rubble in one day, and cleanup of the site at Fifth Street and Souris Avenue will take until the end of the month, weather permitting. The hall was sold by the Elks Lodge last year, and a new development is expected to start on the site later this year.
