Members of the Weyburn Twirlers held their annual square dance meeting, after a potluck supper on Jan. 23 at the E. Lounge, Souris Valley, with 22 members attending.

The president couple, Gordon and Linda James, reported having a very successful year of dancing. Besides the regular 15 dances, two zone dances were hosted in February and October. The dancers also have attended other dance clubs in the area, at Estevan, Regina and Moose Jaw, thus promoting visitors from these parts to attend the local dances.

The Twirlers found time to again dance at the Communithon, as well as for residents at several nursing homes. The club supported the grand opening of the Yellow Grass Restaurant and Souris River Seed Plant of Weyburn.

During the summer months, members represented the Weyburn Twirlers on various occasions by attending the appreciation tea at the Weyburn Home Care for volunteers, 25 years of Don and Frankie Mortenson calling for the Estevan Diamond Dancers, 30 years of round dancing of the Hitch and Vine Round Dance Club, 15 years of cueing for Bob and Sharon Fichter, Norman and Helen Eggum's 45th anniversary dance, 50th anniversary teas for Arnold and Betty Schlapkol and Joe and Hilda Claude of Estevan.

Due to Vie and Norman Flaten's generous hospitality, the Twirlers were again able to hold a summer picnic at the Flaten farm, with 70 dancers from Regina, Estevan and Weyburn in attendance. Plans were made to host such an event again on Sunday, Aug. 15, 2004.

The Twirlers will dance on regular Friday nights at Souris Valley throughout February and March. Don Mortenson will call for the windup dance on March 26 and the club will host the All-Callers Dance on April 4.

The club was privileged to have a caller for its regular Friday night dances: Bob and Rae Nurse, and Valerie Wright from Moose Jaw; Don and Frankie Mortensen, and Bob and Marian Lees of Estevan. Plans are being made to continue the same format for the upcoming season.

The next dance season will begin on Oct. 15, 2004.
