Former Fillmore teacher named a 'Global Citizen'

A former Fillmore resident has been named a 2004 Global Citizen by the Saskatchewan Council for International Co-operation.

Christine Zyla, who teaches at St. Mary's High School in Prince Albert, will be presented with her award at a ceremony on Saturday, March 13.

The Global Citizen awards are given to individuals who have made, in the estimation of their peers, an outstanding contribution to local and global co-operation, peace and justice.

Zyla has served at a number of organizations at provincial and national levels, including the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace.

She is also one of St. Mary's two faith formation facilitators, who work with students and staff on faith-related matters, and helped form a student group called Just Youth.

As part of her work, she also has traveled internationally to countries like El Salvador and Brazil.

The Saskatchewan Council for International Co-operation is an umbrella organization for international development agencies in the province.
