Nominations are now open for the fourth annual Women of the Year awards, which will be awarded to four local women on Tuesday, April 6. Quota International of Weyburn kicked off the nomination drive at a luncheon in the Royal Canadian Legion on Monday afternoon. Linda Banerjee and Susan Stewardson, co-chairs of the awards committee, called on local business and community groups to nominate women in one of the following categories: The SaskPower Workplace Excellence Award, recognizing local women who display superior effort and a desire to improve their work environment. The Quota International of Weyburn Community Service Award, given to a volunteer demonstrating a commitment to enriching her community, alleviating social inequities or strengthening volunteerism. The Access Communications Exceptional Entrepreneur Award, presented to a woman showing leadership or innovation in operating her own business. The Investors Group Young Woman of Distinction Award, given to a woman between 18 and 30 years of age making a significant contribution to her community. All four awards will be given out at the luncheon on April 6 at McKenna Hall. This year, author and broadcaster Jean Freeman, who is originally from Weyburn, will be the keynote speaker. Tickets are $20 each. Nominations close Monday, March 15. Both tickets and nomination forms are available at Dora's Ladies Wear. For further information on filling out nomination forms, call Marlene Yurkowski or Isabelle Butters. Quota International is also looking for additional sponsors for the Women of the Year awards.
