Annual TV Auction:

YF fund-raiser to feature items from sports greats

The Weyburn Young Fellows Club has already received two very special items from curling and football greats for its annual spring TV auction.

The first item is an autographed book called Gold on Ice about the late Saskatchewan curler, Sandra Schmirler. The second is an autographed football from the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Those are some of the priceless items, said organizer Al Kimber. "These are unique things the club doesn't put a dollar value on."

Members of the club are already gathering donations for the annual fund-raising event, to be held this year on Saturday, April 24, from 1-9 p.m. at McKenna Hall and is shown live on Access Communications.

After a month of gathering donations, the first of five collection nights for the members will be held on Thursday, March 11.

Club members will log a large selection of gifts and services donated for the event into a computer in preparation for the big auction day.

"We're looking at things like new tires, and other automotive equipment, used oilfield tubing, yard supplies and camping equipment, framed pictures, and a number of gift certificates for goods and services from businesses, restaurants and other services in the area," said Kimber.

Some clothing, like shirts and jackets, is usually donated for the auction, as well, he said.

"We usually come up with autographed hockey sticks and similar items."

In the past, CP Rail has donated a ride on a train and Lusgar Coal of Estevan has donated a ride on its big crane, he said.

Kimber said the club will continue collecting items until the first week in April.
