Yellow Grass to host 3-D indoor archery competition

Local archery enthusiasts will be able to participate in the Indoor 3-D competition to be held at Yellow Grass on the weekend of March 20 and 21. This will be in preparation for the provincial contest that will be held on Saturday, March 27, in Melville.

Event organizer Bryan Furgason said that this is the fifth time the indoor competition is being held here. He explained that the participants will be shooting at a stuffed life-size animals and will get points on how close they hit the target rings.

"The target animals will have two rings. If you land an arrow in the inner ring, which is the heart, then that is worth 10 points. A shot at the larger second ring that covers the lungs, is worth eight points, while anything on the other part of the body is worth five points," explained Furgason.

The tournament attracted over 120 people last year and Furgason expects more people this year. He said that the event is open to anyone 10 years and older. The registration fee is $20 for adults, $10 for juniors, $5 for participants under 12 years.

The first, second and third place winners will be awarded medals. Furgason expects archers to attend from Regina, Moose Jaw, Estevan, Weyburn and other neighbouring communities.

Last year in the provincials Furgason won a silver medal. His 16-year-old daughter Genell won a bronze in the junior category, while Furgason's friend Paul Chinski won a gold medal. Those interested in the indoor competition can contact Bryan Furgason of Weyburn.
