Scratching behind the ears

Wayne Aitken gives a friendly pet to one of the baby miniature donkeys on his Weyburn-area farm. The baby is just starting to lose its poofy fur coat, and will start to look more like an adult miniature in the months to come. The Aitkens hope to develop a breeding stock of these animals, which are used in petting zoos and in therapeutic ranch-camps.

Addressing future legislators

Speaker Myron Kowalsky of the Saskatchewan Legislature, dressed in his formal garb, talks to Grade 8 students at St. Michael Junior High about the history and purpose for his position. He visited the class on Thursday to oversee a mock session of the Legislature, with the students divided into two school parties, the Tiger Lilies on the government side and the Prairie Dogs for the opposition. One of the bills introduced on the government side was in support of school uniforms at St. Michael School. The real Legislature will open with the Throne Speech on Thursday, March 18.
