Music continues to take centre stage at the Weyburn Comprehensive School, with the final week of the Weyburn Music Festival and the Stars of the Festival concert on Tuesday, April 6 at 7 p.m., along with a Concert Series presentation. The New Berlin Chamber Ensemble will be presented in the Comp Cafetorium as part of the Concert Series on Sunday, April 4 at 2 p.m. All the school's musical groups, along with a large number of individual performers, duets, and small groups, have performed at the Music Festival. A Music and Dessert Concert originally scheduled for Sunday, April 18, has been postponed, as there is no school prior to that date due to Easter holidays. This past week the Grade 9s visited the Comp, and on Tuesday evening there was a Grade 9 orientation night to introduce next year's Grade 10s, along with their parents, to the Weyburn Comprehensive School. These students will now make their subject choices for September with the help of advisors from their school. Plans are continuing for the spring music trip to Minneapolis in May. Rehearsals will start soon for the musical, Grease, to be presented at the end of May. Tickets will go on sale at the Farm, Home and Leisure Show on Friday and Saturday, April 23-24. In sports, the badminton team is continuing to practice and play in tournaments. The wrestling season came to an end over the weekend with provincials in Saskatoon. Kaley Mahaffey won a bronze medal, Brett Semen placed fourth while Brian Lunde finished in fifth. The high school wrestlers were coached by Kevin Butz of the Weyburn Junior High. |
