St. Michael students have busy month to finish term

The students and staff of St. Michael Junior High finished off the second term and began the third term, as they also prepared for the upcoming Easter holiday.

The Grade 9 students were busy rehearsing for their drama production of the Rosary. Parents and members of the public attended the production held on April 6.

The SRC is planning to hold a dance on Friday, April 23.

The students were issued their report cards on March 25, with parent-teacher interviews on March 30. A new format was incorporated this year, as those with the last names from A-M came between 7-8 p.m., and those with last names from N-Z attended from 8-9 p.m.

Many of the Grade 9 students and their parents attended the information night at the Weyburn Comprehensive School on March 30; the students and their teachers had been at the school earlier for orientation. This gave the students the chance to see the school, plan out their Grade 10 courses and see how the high school operates.

Students also had a couple of Fridays off during March. On March 19, the staff took part in the annual Saskatchewan Middle Years Conference in Regina, where a variety of topics were dealt with in regards to teaching middle school, or Grades 6-9. The following Friday, staff had inservices on special education in Midale, and on the Provincial Faith Workshop held in Estevan.

Other highlights from the month included a visit from the Speaker of the Legislature, Myron Kowalsky; performances by the concert and jazz bands at the Weyburn Music Festival, along with many individual students; the continuation of the "Journey of Reflection" for Lent; and a Gym Blast event held by the SRC on March 8 involving all students and staff in fun games.
