Recently I was honoured to receive the Woman of the Year Award. This award was given to someone who has accomplished many things over the years.

Amongst the ones that I have enjoyed doing the most were writing for radio and the Weyburn Review.

In looking through my papers, I ran across a letter from Jim Laing, former owner and manager of what was then-CFSL Radio. The letter was written in April 1982, the 25th anniversary of the station.

Jim asked me via the letter if I would help celebrate the occasion by putting together a tape which they could use on the air. No doubt I did and the tape is no doubt among the many tapes that I have gathered over the years.

I was to write about myself, where I was and what I was doing then, my recollections of Weyburn and possibly mention some names of some of the people I worked with. Anything else that I considered worthwhile or amusing would have been great.

I began my career of writing for radio when I went to the first manager, Keith Baker, to see if I could write a program dealing with my Log Cabin Gift Shop, a shop I had on Third Street.

I hadn't done anything of this kind before but I delved in head-first and kept on going for 20 years, every moment of which I enjoyed.

Writing this program gave me an incentive to look up Weyburn's history and its people, material which I also used in the Weyburn Review.

And so it goes, many years of writing for radio and many articles for the Weyburn Review have kept me well-informed about the history of Weyburn.
