EnCana Oilers begin year with three home victories

The Weyburn EnCana Oilers baseball team started their 2004 season with a 13-3 win over the Estevan Luscar Sluggers on Saturday in Weyburn.

Thomas Bresciani hit a single home run during the game, Garrett Walbaum had two triples and a double, Eric Evans had two singles, Braden Mercier had a double, Kelton Hoium had a single, Lyndon Lumb a single and Jhett Folk had a single.

Walbaum threw six outs and allowed one run as pitcher. Evans had six outs and allowed two runs.

The Oilers then played a double-header on Sunday against the Regina Buffaloes in Weyburn. The first game was an 11-5 victory for the Oilers. The second game was a 14-13 squeaker in Weyburn's favour, as the Oilers came from behind with a final inning RBI by Dillen Schneider.

Hits in both games came from Evans with a triple, Bresciani, Hoium, Schneider and Lyndon Cross.

In Game 1, Walbaum pitched nine outs and allowed two runs, while Evans had nine outs and three runs. In Game 2, Mercier had three outs and six runs, Schneider had six outs and four runs and Bresciani had nine outs and three runs.

The Oilers compete in the Baseball Regina Mosquito AAA League, which includes four teams from Regina and single teams from Estevan, Yorkton and Melville.

Their next game is a double-header with Melville in Weyburn on Sunday, May 9. Their first game is at 1 p.m.
