Rotary delegation at City Hall

A delegation from India on a Group Study Exchange, along with their hosts with the Weyburn Rotary Club, gather in front of City Hall's glass wall during their first stop to Weyburn on Wednesday. In the front row from left to right are Diwakar Thapa, Tina Atifa Masood, Neelakshi Mahanta, Ramachandran Ramesh and Ilene Miles. In back are delegation team leader Suvrajyoti Sengupta, Rotary Club president Mal Barber, Laraine Tremblay, Marg and Grant Marinos, Deputy Mayor Ray Hamm and Jack Onstad. The Weyburn club gave the delegation a tour of sites of interest around Weyburn and put on a supper for them Wednesday evening, and the delegation went on to Estevan for the Rotary district convention held over the weekend before they returned home to India.

Getting ready for Diabetes marathon

Halbrite resident Meagan Duncan plays with her nephew, Holden Duncan, and his friend Brooke Stabenow, who are the reasons for Meagan's participation in the Fire and Ice Marathon to be hosted in Iceland in August to raise funds for diabetes research. Both Holden and Brooke have Type 1 insulin-dependent diabetes, and both require two shots of insulin a day, along with getting their blood sugar checked five times a day. Meagan hopes the monies raised from this marathon will help find a cure for diabetes, and help Holden and Brooke go on to lead normal lives. She needs to raise $5,500 for the marathon, which takes place in Reykjavik, Iceland, on Aug. 21.
