Weyburn District Shriners have 16th carnation sale

The Weyburn and District Shrine Club will be selling carnations for the 16th year in a row, to help benefit Shrine projects.

Shriners from Weyburn, Creelman, Fillmore, Pangman, Ogema, Bengough and Radville belong to the Weyburn district Club.

The profits from the fund-raiser go to the Wa Wa Shrine and Weyburn Shrine Club projects, such as helping to send patients to Shrine Hospitals for treatment.

Currently there are 73 children from Saskatchewan needing the services of the Shrine Hospitals, located in Montreal, Minneapolis, Los Angeles, Cincinnati and Portland. The Wa Wa Shrine, which the Weyburn club is a part of, spent more than $165,000 in 2003 to send patients and their parents to Shrine Hospitals.

Those needing care are physically handicapped children from infancy to their 18th birthday, and acutely burned children needing immediate care, or plastic surgery and rehabilitation. The local Shrine club plays for all transportation costs to the hospitals as well as accommodations for the parents of the patients.

Weyburn Shriners began selling their carnations on Thursday, and will deliver the flowers on Tuesday, June 8. The cost is $12. The Weyburn club buys the carnations locally.
