Any boys going into Grades 9 to 12 next year who are interested
in playing football are invited to come out for the Comp School's
spring football camp, which will run from May 26 to June 1. Darren Abel, coach of the Comp Eagles football team, will hold the camp from Wednesday to Friday, May 26-28, and Monday and Tuesday, May 31 and June 1. The practices will run from 4:15 to 6 p.m. each day at Darold Kot Football Field at the Comp School, and there is no charge to attend the camp. Abel said he will have registration forms at the Comp and two junior high schools for those interested to pick up. "We'll mainly be going over skills, such as quarterbacking skills, receiving skills, linebacker skills and so on," said Abel, adding all necessary equipment will be provided for those attending. All Comp kids who are coming to the camp can pick up their equipment on May 20 or 21 between 3:30 and 5 p.m., and students from Weyburn Junior High and St. Michael Junior High can pick equipment up on May 24, also between 3:30-5 p.m. Abel noted the Comp Eagles had one of their best seasons ever last year, finishing in second place after the regular season, but unfortunately the team is losing a number of key players to graduation, so he'll be watching for prospective new players. Two of the graduating players, Brendon LaBatte and Cassidy Nielson, were both selected to the Senior Bowl this spring, plus LaBatte has been selected for the Regina Rams football team. "We're looking for lots of new talent, no experience is necessary," said Abel, adding he's had boys join in Grade 12 for their first time and played well. If anyone would like more information about the camp, they can contact Abel at the Comp School. |
