The Creelman Agriculture Society's 100th anniversary celebration will add another day to the community's annual fair this year. Agriculture Society president Greg Gerry said Monday the society's anniversary will be held on Sunday, July 18, with the regular fair day following on Monday, July 19. Over 250 tickets have already been sold for the Sunday evening roast beef dinner, to former residents and their families as far away as California, eastern Canada and the west coast, Gerry said. Events on Sunday begin at noon with a hot dog roast and threshing display on the fairgrounds. A car show and shine will be set up, as well as hay rides and old-fashioned children's games like sack races. Hugh Goudy of Stoughton will bring his buggy collection to the event, and antique farm machinery will be on display. Gerry said people will be able to see how a crop was seeded at the turn of the last century, in the 1950s, and compare those operations to seeding today. Parents from the city might find that particularly interesting for their children to see, he said. Beer gardens will be open all day in one of the large tents on the grounds, with a large fireworks display at dusk. The roast beef dinner will begin at 6 p.m. Gerry said the society is encouraging people to dress in period costume for the two days. On Monday, regular fair day events will begin with the parade at 10 a.m. Horse and cattle shows, and the 4-H calf show will be held at the fairgrounds, along with a pig scramble and all the familiar sewing, plants and baking exhibits. A craft and trade show will be held along with the beer gardens, which will be moved to the rink, and a Saskatoon company will supply rides for children. It's a new midway for us, said Gerry. An invitational and slo-pitch tournament also will be held Monday. |
