The Weyburn Comprehensive School awarded the top athletes, musicians, actors and singers with the annual activity awards on Wednesday morning. The awards were presented in the Cafetorium. The academic awards will be awarded in the fall at the start of the next school year. The awards for choral included the following: Outstanding Choral Student, Gerad Fox; Outstanding Female Vocalist, Rachelle Kvamme; Outstanding Male Vocalist, Mike Froh; and Choir Excellence Award, Jessica Didyk. In Band the following awards were presented: Outstanding Woodwind trophy and medal, Jenna Knox and Brian Lunde; Outstanding Brass, trophy and medal, Josh Brown; Outstanding Percussion trophy and medal, Preston Roy; and Most Valuable band student, Matthew Erickson. In Drama, the Andrea Eckel shield and medal was presented Carly Schneider; the Director's Choice was Rachelle Kvamme; the Drama Rookie Award went to Lane Krainyk; and the Musical Performance Award was shared by Mike Froh and Gerad Fox. In Debate, the Bryant Oratory Award shield and medal was presented to Jessica Didyk and Ashley Mantei, and coach's award went to Chelsey Hudson and Krysta Buchanan. For those involved in the school newspaper and yearbook, the Royal Purple Award went to Ashley Mantei, and the Advisor's Award went to Allyson Kew. For the SRC, the gavel was presented to Ryan Buchanan and Carly Schneider; the Advisor's Award went to Stephanie Pateman; the Award of Excellence was presented to Ryan Buchanan, and Super Block Ws were presented to Brian Loden, Ryan Buchanan, Carly Schneider, Gerad Fox and Drew Krainyk. The Bethel Trophy was presented to Drew Krainyk and Gerad Fox, and the George Pierce spirit award plaque and medal went to Drew Krainyk. In sports, awards were given for best overall athletes, as well as for outstanding performance in each sport. The Andrews & Wilder trophy for outstanding female athlete went to Kirsten Betker, and the Rose Brothers trophy for outstanding male athletes were presented to Brian Loden and Jason Obst. In girls soccer, the Excellence Award was presented to Anita Trenaman, and the coach's award went to Brittany Pegg. For golf, the coach's award went to Carter Hilkewich, and the Leadership award was presented to Jason Hoium. For cross-country, the Outstanding Performer was Kris Frisk. In football, the Allen Moffat Trophy and medal were presented to Cassidy Neilson, Reed Anderson, Brendon LaBatte and Brian Lee. The Al Watson Trophy and medal went to Gerad Fox and Brad Hillstead; and the coach's award went to Josh Williams. In girls' volleyball, the Award of Excellence went to Kirsten Betker, and the coach's award was given to Stephanie Pateman. For junior girls volleyball, the MVP was Sheena Tessier, and Most Improved was Alisha Patterson. In junior boys volleyball, the coach's award went to Orrie Gaab. For boys' volleyball, the MVP trophy went to Brian Loden; Most Improved was Jeff Moser and Ryan Buchanan; and the coach's award went to Derek Robillard. In girls' basketball, the Award of Excellence went to Kirsten Betker; Most Improved was Desiree Smith; and the coach's award was presented to Jaelyn Greening. In boys' basketball, the MVP trophy went to Brian Loden; Most Improved was Gerad Fox; and the coach's award went to Kris Frisk. In junior boys' basketball, the Most Dedicated award went to Shane Schwindt, and the coach's award went to David Barber. In junior girls' basketball, Most Improved was Anya Phillips, and the coach's award went to Jaynel Mann. In girls curling, the Bob Petit Memorial Award went to Ashton Pitre, and the coach's award went to Megan Hill. For boys' curling, the Emil Porth Award was given to Jason Obst, and the coach's award went to Jared Nimegeers. For mixed curling, the coach's award went to Sara Nikolejsin, and the Excellence Award went to Brennen Jones. In badminton, the Excellence Award went to Jeff Moser, and the coach's award went to Tyson O'Dell and Mandelle Besler. For track and field, the Excellence award went to Kris Frisk, and the coach's award went to Shealese Haupstein and Lane Krainyk. In cheerleading, the Dedication and Performance trophy went to Brandy Gerry, and the Excellence Award went to Jenna Ward. For wrestling, the coach's award went to Kaley Mahaffey. |
