Local rock band to start 40-date tour

Weyburn-based hard rock band Away From Here will go on a 40-date tour this summer to promote the CD they released last year.

The band, comprised of Preston Roy, Mike Froh, Vaughn Hortness, Ryan Robillard and Ricky Tiefenbach, will begin their tour on July 9 in Saskatoon to promote their CD, Anatomy of a Broken Heart. From there the band goes to Vancouver to appear as part of the Warped Tour, a massive rock festival that will be making its way across the country. Only some of their play dates will be part of the Warped Tour, as they will fill in with dates of their own until the end of August. The tour will take them into Ottawa, Quebec and Detroit by the end of summer.

Before the band leaves for their tour, they'll do a last show in Weyburn on Friday, June 25, in the Knox Hall. The doors open at 7 and the show starts at 7:30 p.m. Other bands to appear with them include Regina's Weak at Best, and two bands from Moose Jaw, Prevail and Short Story. Tickets are $7 at the door, although as some of the band members are grads, fellow grad classmates can get in for $5 each.

"We're the first band out of Weyburn to get on the Warped Tour," said Roy, adding it's hard to get on the tour as a lot of high-quality acts are on the list already.
