Steam train to make stop in Weyburn

One of the last operating steam locomotives in North America will be making a stop in Weyburn as it travels along the Soo Line rail line.

The CPR Empress locomotive 2816 will steam into Weyburn on Sunday, July 11, as a fund-raising run for the national Breakfast for Learning program. Residents can take a one-way train ride for $30, either from Estevan to Weyburn, or from Weyburn to Milestone.

The train leaves Estevan at 10:15 a.m. and arrives in Weyburn at 11:40 a.m. The departure from Weyburn is 12:40 p.m., and will arrive in Milestone at 1:45 p.m. Tickets may be available at the train stop, but organizers anticipate most of the seats will be presold by phone.

Breakfast for Learning is a program run by the Canadian Living Foundation, a national non-profit organization dedicated to supporting child nutrition programs in Canada.

The goal of this program is to ensure every child attends school well-nourished and ready to learn. Tickets are available through Breakfast for Learning's toll-free number.
