The Weyburn Midget AAA Beavers went 3-3 in a ball tournament at Dickinson, N.D., over the July 1-4 long weekend. The Beavers won their first three games, first defeating Rapid City, S.D., by a score of 7-4. The Beavers were down four runs by the fourth inning when they scored their first run. Mat Larson and Devin Ledingham doubled, giving Ledingham the RBI. Ryan Thompson also singled. Weyburn then scored six runs in the seventh to win the game. Ledingham started things off with a double, setting up Ryan Thompson for the RBI. Preston Shupe singled and scored on an error. Gerad Fox and Troy Miller singled, and Bucky Schneider got to first base on an error. Will Morris doubled for two RBIs and Larson singled for another two RBIs. Pitching a strong game was Ryan Thompson. The player of the game was Will Morris. In the second game, the Beavers scored a 5-0 shutout against Glendive, Mont. In the second inning, Morris singled and scored on an error. Shupe singled and Myles Fish doubled for the RBI. In the sixth inning, Larson singled and Schneider doubled for the RBI. In the seventh inning, Shupe singled and stole home. KC McCormick and Fox singled, giving Fox the RBI. Throwing a no-hitter on the mound was Adam Wilson. Fox was named player of the game. In the third game, the Beavers played Pierre, S.D., winning 5-3. In the first inning, Fox doubled, giving Ledingham the RBI. In the third inning, Thompson doubled, Wilson singled and Fox doubled for an RBI. Miller walked and Ledingham singled for two RBIs. Schneider singled for an RBI. A strong pitching performance was put in by Larson, who was named player of the game with 11 strikeouts. Then, the Beavers fell apart in their next three games. Weyburn lost their fourth match to Dickinson, N.D., by a score of 2-1. There were no runs until the sixth, when Dickinson scored twice. Weyburn's only run came in the seventh, as Morris walked and Schultz, Fox and Miller hit RBIs to bring Morris home. Devin Ledingham put in a great pitching performance and was named player of the game. In the fifth game, Weyburn lost 10-6 to Gallatin Valley, Mont. The Beavers were down six runs when they scored three in the third inning. Fish walked, Fox walked to first on an error, Morris and Ledingham got on base on a fielder's choice and Larson hit a three-run homer. In the fifth inning, Fish doubled and Fox singled, setting up Ledingham and Morris with two RBIs. Larson also hit a double. In the seventh, Morris tripled and stole home, Larson walked and Miller singled. Shupe and Schultz put in solid pitching, with Shupe and Larson receiving game MVP honours. In the sixth and final game, the Beavers played the Moose Jaw Cardinals, losing 4-3 in five extra innings. In the first, Gerad Fox singled and scored on a error as Larson and Thompson walked. In the second, Shupe got to first on an error and Fox singled for an RBI. In the sixth, Moose Jaw tied the game. The Cardinals scored another in the 10th inning, but Weyburn rebounded with another run, with Morris scoring on an error following a double. Moose Jaw got another run in the 13th inning, and Weyburn couldn't recover the tie. Thompson and Evan Schultz pitched, with Schultz going nine of the 13 innings. Miller was player of the game. In league play, the Beavers played the Moose Jaw Cardinals on June 29 to a 7-7 tie. The first inning ended as Fox tripled and stole home. Parker Cameron tripled, giving Larson the RBI. In the third, Fox hit a solo home run, followed by a double by Larson. The Beavers were down by three runs in the fourth, but recovered that inning, with Schneider walking and Thompson hitting a single for an RBI. In the fifth, Josh Williams walked, Miller got to first on an error and Schneider got the RBI. In the seventh, they tied up the game with two runs. Brennan Luffman walked and scored on an error, followed by a single from Larson. Ledingham then reached first on an error, Miller walked and Schneider scored the RBI. Pitchers were Cameron and Luffman. |
