Train stop

Passengers and sightseers crowd around the CPR Empress, a vintage steam locomotive originally built in 1932, as it stopped in Weyburn on Sunday morning. Hundreds of people turned out to ride the train as it passed from Weyburn to Milestone, and then on to Rouleau and Moose Jaw. The historic train ride was being made as a fund-raiser for the Breakfast For Learning, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting child nutrition programs in Canada.

Summer Games banner goes up

Royal Bank branch manager Charlene Luffman and events coordinator Carey Zaba watch Gord Hargraft apply the finishing touches to the Summer Games banner on the exterior of the bank building downtown on Thursday. The banner is a perforated window mural, and operates much like a one-way mirror, allowing those inside to be able to look outside. The bank, which is a platinum sponsor of the Games, will also have a display inside counting down the days until the Summer Games go on Aug. 8-14. All Weyburn, Fillmore and Ogema employees will be volunteering to put on the Olympic FanFair, interactive sport exhibit that will be located at Jubilee Park during the Games.
