Midget Beavers take win, tie amid losses at tourney

The Weyburn AAA Midget Beavers had a win and a tie at a tournament in Saskatoon over the weekend, where they suffered their first two losses of the season.

The Beavers took a 2-2 tie in their first game versus the Regina White Sox on Friday night. In the first inning, Gerad Fox got to first on an error and Troy Miller singled, giving Devin Ledingham the RBI.

In the fifth, Fox walked and Miller doubled for the RBI. Regina got two runs in the sixth to tie the game. Mat Larson and Brennan Luffman also got hits that game.

Pitching for Weyburn was Luffman, who was named game MVP.

Weyburn took a 3-1 loss against the Saskatoon Giants in their second game. In the first inning, the Beavers scored their only run of the game. Gerad Fox got to first on an error and Devin Ledingham singled for the RBI.

Gerad Fox, Troy Miller and Brennan Luffman also got singles in the game. Pitchers were Ryan Thompson and Devin Ledingham. The MVP of the game was Gerad Fox.

In the third game, the Beaver lost 9-7 to the Saskatoon Aces. Josh Williams and Bucky Schneider got on base on errors in the second inning, setting up Williams to score a run. In the third, Fox and Luffman singled and then scored on errors. Larson also got a walk.

In the fifth, Ryan Thompson got to first on an error, Fox singled, Luffman got on base on a fielder's choice and Ledingham doubled for an RBI.

Williams then singled for two RBIs.

In the sixth inning, Schneider doubled, Fox singled and Schneider stole home. Pitchers were Larson and Schultz. Fox was named MVP.

The Beavers finally secured a win against the Saskatoon Rays, blanking them 9-0. Mat Larson singled in the first inning, Ledingham walked and Williams singled for the RBI.

In the second, Thompson singled and Luffman doubled, giving Fox the RBI. Schneider then tripled for another RBI and Larson got to first on an error for the RBI.

In the third, Miller singled and Thompson walked, giving Schultz the RBI.

In the fifth, Weyburn added four more runs. Miller singled, Luffman walked and Schultz singled for the RBI. Fox doubled for two more RBIs and Schneider netted the final RBI.

Adam Wilson put in a great pitching performance. Schultz was named game MVP.

The Beavers also won a game on July 6, defeating the Regina Braves 12-1. Their record is now 12 wins, two losses and one tie.

Their next home game is Thursday, July 15, at 7 p.m.
