The Weyburn Agricultural Society held a Ranch Rodeo the evening prior to the opening of the Weyburn Fair, on July 4, with teams taking part in 10 fun events in the new permanent rodeo arena. The evening also included a beef-on-a-bun barbecue and a hat auction. All proceeds from the events went to the Ag Society's grandstand project. Each team in the rodeo had to including a celebrity contestant. The following are the results of the rodeo. In the team penning event, the winners were the Kmita team, comprised of Kristen Marshall, Chris Quam, Tyler Kmita and Billy Moore, with celebrity contestant Neil Weyland of the Royal Bank. For goat tying, the Block team claimed first place. The team included Del Block, Kyra Block, Harold Knox, Trond Tytlandsvik and celebrity Todd Lawrence of Weyburn Security. In the rescue race, the Kmita team won first place. In team roping, first was won by the Piwarski team, including members Wade Isbell, Blake Isbell, Camri Piwarski and Ken Piwarski, with celebrity Hughie Gilchrist of the Weyburn Police. The hide race was won by the Weyburn 4-H team, which included team members Tiffany Gutzke, Brodie Gutzke, Craig Gordon and Graham Stewart, and celebrity Coun. Bill McKenzie of Weyburn. The cattle rustling event was won by the Rock Glen Rustlers. Team members were Kirk Fisher, Marc Berthelot, Kevin Heagg and Nicole Kmita, with celebrity Kim Hallberg of the Weyburn Implement Dealers. The steer undecorating contest was won by Piwarski team. Wild cow milking was won by the Kmita team, who also won the team branding event. The overall winner was the Schmidt team, comprised of members Shane Roysum, Lindsay Vande Velde, Robert Schmidt and John Claffey, with celebrity member Carmen Stirling, reeve of the RM of Weyburn. |
