Senior Beavers unable to secure win in four matches

For the second week in a row, the Weyburn Senior Beavers failed to produce a win in four home and away games, suffering two losses against Yorkton and two more against Saskatoon and Swift Current.

The closest that the Beavers came to another notch in the win column was on Monday night, when they hosted the Swift Current Indians for a 4-3 loss at Tom Laing Park.

Weyburn trailed Swift Current 4-0 until the bottom of the eighth inning, when they finally scored a run. Mike Collins, who walked to first and then advanced to second on a wild pitch, scored on an RBI double by Kip Simon.

But the Beavers failed to tie the Indians in the ninth inning, producing only two runs. Tanner Brotzel and Naoki Komatsu singled to get on base, and Komatsu advanced to second. Larson then hit an RBI single that brought Komatsu in for a run.

Nick Stushnoff, who had reached first base on a fielder's choice, later scored the Beavers' second run on an RBI single from Collins.

Tyrel Hansen received the loss for Weyburn, pitching seven innings. He was relieved by Kip Simon and Ryan Siever.

Though Weyburn was strong against Swift Current, they took a 13-5 pounding from Yorkton on Sunday night. Adam Balan, Stushnoff, coach Bob Narkaus, Jay Miller and Braden Messer all had runs that night, with RBIs being credited to Larson, Narkaus and Brotzel.

Larson received the loss for Weyburn, pitching six innings and allowing six runs. Ryan Mehler pitched two innings and allowed seven runs.

On Thursday, the Beavers took a 4-0 loss versus the Saskatoon Yellowjackets. Though the Beavers made 10 hits in 34 at-bats, they failed to produce a run.

Bevin Ledingham pitched eight innings for Weyburn, throwing six strikeouts and allowing eight hits.

Weyburn also hosted the Yorkton Cardinals on July 13, which ended in an 8-5 loss. Yorkton had a 4-1 lead by the second inning, though Weyburn managed to tie Yorkton once in the fifth inning.

Tyrel Hansen received the loss for Weyburn, pitching six innings and allowing seven runs. Ryan Mehler was on the mound for two innings and Justin Beahm pitched for one, allowing a single run.

Runs were scored by Stushnoff, Larson, Collins, Simon and Miller. Collins had three RBIs, while Simon and Narkaus contributed the remaining two.
