Rehearsals will start soon for the children and teens who will be performing at the opening and closing ceremonies for the 2004 Saskatchewan Summer Games, and more performers are being sought. "We're getting a lot of kids and teens together. We have about 30 kids so far. If anyone else would be interested, they could call me. We have another 15 teens we could use, or people to help with any part of it," said teacher Colleen Weimer. The group will perform parts of the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat, at both the Games ceremonies, as well as performing the entire production in a series of performances during the Games. A music camp will be held for the rehearsals for the production from July 26-30 at the T.C. Douglas Centre. Children will gather from 1-5 p.m. each day, and the teen chorus will practice in the evening. The performers will do a 20-minute medley for the opening and closing ceremonies, while the whole production will be performed on Aug. 10, 11 and 12 at the T.C. Douglas Centre at 7:30 p.m. each evening. There will be a charge of $5 per person for the musical. The group will also perform at the Wheat Festival for Music in the Park on Monday, Aug. 9, to be held in River Park. "For anyone who likes to perform, this will be a big deal. It's a way of volunteering for the Games; it's an opportunity to be involved in the Games on another level," said Weimer. Some familiar names and faces will be on the stage as part of the group, added Weimer, including a number who have done well in musicals at the Comp in the past few years. They include Amy Satre, Sarah Quickfall, Mike Tourand, Tim Bangsund, Megan Leach and Rachelle Kvamme. For more information or to join the group, contact Colleen Weimer in Weyburn. |
