Blood clinic does better than expected

A blood donor clinic held in Weyburn on July 20 had better results than organizers had hoped for.

Acknowledging the busy schedule of residents during summer holiday time, organizers had hoped the clinic would bring in 130 units of blood.

In the clinic held at the Legion Hall, there were 197 donors in attendance, and not counting 27 who were deferred, there were 170 units of blood collected.

"These results were above our expectation. The units are needed because summer is a challenging time for the blood system, as people are juggling many other activities," said clinic coordinator Robin Glennie.

The clinic was held in part to ensure the blood supply remains strong through the summer, particularly in the face of the fight against the West Nile virus.
