The City of Weyburn's Yahoo for your Yard contest had 36 entries, and the top five winners and honourable mentions were announced on July 27. The judging for the contest took place on July 23, with 30 of the 36 entries being nominated by friends, neighbours or family. The contest was held in advance of judging for the Communities in Bloom provincial competition, which took place on Thursday, July 29; some of the top yards from the city contest will be part of the judges' tour. The top five winners were Vera Miller, Bison Avenue; Ken Hill, Brimacombe Drive; Brenda Bloor, Dieppe Drive; Myrna and Sandy Sanderson, Wiebe Cres.; and Stan and April Sampson of Fifth Avenue S.E. The honourable mentions went to Shirley and John Ruckaber, Government Road; Ellen and Brian Pegg, 13th St.; Dave and Michele Craigen, Douglas Road; and Susan Nedelcov-Anderson, Ninth St. The judges had a difficult time choosing the winners, as there were many unique features, such as raised gardens, plant sculptures, ponds, floral displays, and all were meticulously maintained. If Weyburn wins their category in the provincial contest, the city will then be eligible to be judged for the national Communities in Bloom competition. |
