Chamber tourism guide now available

The Weyburn Chamber of Commerce's annual tourism guide has been printed and is available for local residents and their visitors to use in choosing summer activities.

Chamber manager Cindy Bell said the guide can be picked up at the Chamber office, as well as various locations throughout the city.

The 32-page guide includes a City of Weyburn map, information on its financial institutions, points of interest, a list of local churches, and a calendar of events into 2005, said Bell.

The guide also offers coupons for specials at local restaurants and merchants, and information about the parks and recreation opportunities in the immediate area.

Details on the local economy, included farming, the oil industry, bird watching, hunting and fishing is also made available, she said.

Bell said the Chamber's summer Hospitality in the Park program also is well underway at River Park.

"Volunteers are in place from 7-9 p.m. each night. It is a great way for visitors to discover first hand what Weyburn's hospitality is all about," she said. Free coffee and cookies are available each evening until September, provided by different organizations and clubs.

On occasion, local residents also will bring their musical instruments to add some musical variation to the social gathering, which frequently draws local residents as well as travelers.

Bell said retired resident Fred Bennett took over as host of the park many years ago and adds his warm welcome and special personality to the beauty of the park, with the result that some travelers stop by year after year on their way through Weyburn.

He's there to make sure everything goes well, she said.

The Chamber's Golf and Steak Social will be held this year on Friday, Sept. 17. Interested persons can call the Chamber office to book tickets for the evening.
