Handing off the torch

Law enforcement torch runner Hughie Gilchrist hands off the Summer Games torch to volunteer coordinator Nick Coroluick, who then lit the volunteer flame at the corner of Fifth Street and First Avenue on Sunday afternoon. Standing behind Coroluick are members of the Summer Games organizing committee. Later the torch at the main Games site at the Comp School track was lit for the opening ceremonies. The flame will stay lit until the closing ceremonies on Saturday, Aug. 14.

The faces behind the Games

Heather van der Breggen reflects on her plaster sculpture depicting the faces of the cultural events committee of the 2004 Saskatchewan Summer Games. She and the other members of the committee all contributed to this sculpture by doing plaster masks of each other, though two members are represented with casts of their hands and feet only. Though it will not be part of the competition, this sculpture will be featured in the Zone 1 Peoples' Choice Exhibiton, which is being shown at the Allie Griffin Art Gallery (located in the Weyburn Public Library) for the duration of the Games.
