Classes resume at Comp

The 2004/05 school year at the Weyburn Comprehensive School began with registration on Monday, and classes were underway on Tuesday. The enrolment was initially expected to be around 520, but a final number will not be determined until mid-September.

With retirements, there are two new teachers at the Comp; Kate Bell is the new librarian, and Jody Kerr is a new teacher in the Phys. Ed department. Leah Birnie and Tanya Cameron have both returned from maternity leaves.

The academic awards night for the 2003-04 school year will be held tonight, Sept. 1, in the Comp Cafetorium starting at 7:30 p.m.

The SRC's Welcome Week will include a pancake breakfast on Wednesday, Sept. 8, which is open to students, parents, staff and the public from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. The SRC is also working on launching their magazine sales campaign on Friday, Sept. 3, for which students will be out in force selling magazine subscriptions to raise money for the SRC's extra-curricular activities.

The Comp's football team has begun practice in preparation for their home opener on Saturday, Sept. 11 at 2 p.m. against Regina Luther. The volleyball and girls soccer teams have also begun their tryouts, cheerleading has started and the golf team and cross-country team are always looking for more participants.

Eagle passes are being sold by all athletes in the upcoming week. The $25 price will allow people to get in to all sporting events, dramas and music concerts. The pass will also be good for a discount for the November fowl supper and the spring musical.

Many of the clubs and organizations starting up within the next couple of weeks include the yearbook, debate and SADD.
