Co-op Midget Beaver wins pair of major league awards

A member of the Co-op Midget Beavers added cream to the prize of the Optimist League championship won by the Weyburn squad, as Gerad Fox also garnered two major league awards.

The awards were presented at the league awards ceremony, where team captains Devin Ledingham and Mat Larson accepted the championship trophy from league officials.

Fox was awarded the trophy for the Optimist League's Most Valuable Player in the 2004 season, and the league's batting championship trophy, with a season batting average of .452.

Fox is going on to play ball at the college level at North Dakota State in Williston starting this fall.

Other Midget Beaver players are also continuing their baseball careers at the post-second level, including Ledingham, who will study at the University of Lethbridge, and Larson, who will go to the U.S. to Boone, Iowa to study and play ball.

All three of these players have played their baseball careers in the Weyburn Minor Ball Association, and are now on baseball scholarships at university. These boys have participated in the Saskatchewan Selects program while they played in Weyburn.

The tradition of excellence will continue for the WMBA, as this year Parker Cameron and Brennan Luffman have played with the Saskatchewan Selects 17-year-old squad, with Cameron recently earning an invitation to play with Team Canada after an excellent performance at a recent tournament in Thunder Bay, Ont.

Brennan Luffman, Evan Schultz and Adam Wilson will play with the 16-year-old Saskatchewan Selects this fall.
