CUPE pickets health region

Members of the CUPE Health Care Council march in protest in front of the Weyburn General Hospital at noon on Wednesday, as they held an information picket in opposition to the planned centralization of laundry services in the Sun Country Health Region in Weyburn. The union says the move will cause 28 jobs to be lost, and proposed an alternative way to save funding and jobs for the 2004-05 budget year. More actions are proposed to bring the issue before the public and the health district's attention.

Orientation Day at college

Kendra Hart, on the left, and Brandon Tenbult, both of Weyburn, are among the University of Regina students who attended orientation day at the Southeast Regional College on Thursday. Standing in the back are Bev Kulach, post-secondary advisor for the college, and Gloria Stevenson, marketing manager for the college. After filling in all the forms and learning some of the rules and regulations, students attended a barbecue at lunch. Kulach said about 35 full time students are registered at the Weyburn campus, with some part-time students as well.
