Nominations opened on Tuesday for the election of directors to the Canadian Wheat Board for even-numbered districts, including the district for the Weyburn region. The election is being organized and held by the chartered accounting firm Meyers Norris Penny LLP, which has set up a web site to carry much of the pertinent information needed for the election. The incumbent director for District 8, which includes southeast Saskatchewan, is Rod Flaman. With the election period opened on Sept. 7, nominations will close on Oct. 25. The voting packages for those districts requiring an election will be mailed out on Nov. 1 and the voting period will end on Dec. 3, with results announced by Dec. 12. A preliminary voters' list will be available in all MNP offices, and voter eligibility confirmations will be mailed to all producers in the voting districts by Friday, Sept. 10. The deadline for changes to the final voters list is Tuesday, Oct. 12. To be a candidate for director, a person must be a Canadian citizen, 18 years of age or older as of filing date, and be named in a CWB permit book as an actual producer or shareholder in a corporation or cooperative that is a producer. A person can be a candidate in the district in which they are registered as a producer or in an adjacent electoral district. The web site for the election can be found at cwbelection.com. |
