Review wins four awards from SWNA

The Weyburn Review continued its tradition of excellence, as the newspaper won four awards at the annual convention of the Saskatchewan Weekly Newspapers Association (SWNA) held in Regina over the weekend.

The awards include a first-place award, a second place and two third-place prizes.

The Review was awarded first place in the business editorial category, for an editorial written by Greg Nikkel on March 26 about the issue of Hazco wanting to locate a non-hazardous landfill adjacent to the city landfill.

A feature photo of an oil worker on a service rig won second for Best Feature Photo. The photo, by Greg Nikkel, was the cover photo for the Review's special Black Gold section published for the Saskatchewan Oil and Gas Show on May 28.

A photo of the demolition of the wooden Pioneer elevator on May 21 by Greg Nikkel won third place for Best Hard News photo.

The Review won third place for the Best Front Page in the 2004 General Excellence Awards. For this award, the Review submitted issues from March 19 and Oct. 22, and judging was based on a number of criteria, including content, photos, layout, masthead and typography.
