By SADIE MAGUIRE

The 100th birthday celebration was held Sept. 4 in the assembly room of Bison Manor for Sarah (Sadie) Maguire in the form of a come and go tea.

The room was decorated in beautiful rose pink and purple streamers, balloons and flowers. The tea tables were covered with white table cloths and centred with glass vases and matching flowers.

Sadie and daughter Marian Edna (Turner) Lewis received the guests and attended the register. About 150 guests were present, including Sadie's son Wayne Freeman Maguire, her five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Musical numbers were played on saxophone and clarinet by grandson Shaun Turner and granddaughter Carly Turner, accompanied by Marian Lewis, their mother and grandmother. Grand niece Kendra McFarland gave a beautiful solo.

At 7 p.m., 51 guests sat down to a sumptuous dinner followed by a special program. Jeffrey Maguire was master of ceremonies, Shaun Turner said grace and Blair Turner, all of whom are grandsons, was taste master.

Son Wayne read several government letters expressing congratulations and best wishes for the future. Sadie received letters from Governor General Adrienne Clarkson, Prime Minister Paul Martin, Lieutenant-Governor Lynda Haverstock, Senator Pam Merchant, Premier Lorne Calvert, Saskatchewan Party Leader Brad Wall, and Weyburn-Big Muddy MLA Brenda Bakken.

Instrumental selections were given by Shaun Turner, Carly Turner, and Marian Turner Lewis.

A skipping routine by Natalie Turner, a solo by Kendra McFarland, followed by vintage slides of Sadie's life and family by Lesley and Shane Pearce (grandson and granddaughter), closed the program. It was followed by remarks and reminiscences by Brenda Crabbe, Maureen Turner, Marian Turner Lewis.

Sadie responded, thanking all who came to make her birthday celebration a great and enjoyable day.

In lieu of gifts, Sadie preferred a donation to the Weyburn Public Library, which was greatly appreciated.

Fifty-one relatives were present from Saskatchewan, B.C., Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, California, Florida, South Carolina and Arkansas.

Sadie was married from 1927 to 1991 to Arthur Maguire at her home Anglican church in Kilarney, Man. Arthur died in Oct. 23, 1991.
