Preparing for a practice burn

Deputy Fire Chief Murray Sabados, standing, goes over procedure and the test the fire fighters will be put to when a practice fire is lit inside a house on Ninth Street. The owners of the house have slated it for demolition, and offered it to the Fire Department to practice with. The fire fighters were able to practice different scenarios of a house fire, and were also able to go in afterwards to see the patterns of burning, and the strata of heat and smoke they would encounter in a real house fire. The house was later finished off with a full burn on Wednesday night. This week is Fire Prevention Week, and members of the Fire Department will be visiting schools with the fire safety house, and also attended the Fire Hall open house held on Sunday afternoon. Looking at storm pictures

Brittney Kellett operates the laptop at left as her parents, Chris and Cheryl, and brother Braydon watch storm shots they took in Grand Cayman Island, during a visit to Weyburn recently. The Kelletts, former Weyburn residents, spent two to three weeks back in Canada in the aftermath of Hurrican Ivan, which left widespread flooding and devastation across the Caribbean island, and were due to return there today, Oct. 6, as Brittney and Braydon's high school reopened this week. The Kellett family have lived in Grand Cayman for the past eight years.
