The next big event at the Weyburn Comprehensive School is the "2004 Showcase" during Education Week. It will be held on Thursday, Oct. 14 and will feature collections of all sizes and shapes, including cards, stamps, collectibles, pins, hats and whatever. There will be displays and demonstrations by various school clubs and groups. The public is invited to browse through the school from 6 to 8 p.m., and at 8 the STARS choir and jazz band will perform. All parents and the general public are invited to attend to see what special interests students have, and to enjoy the entertainment. The Weyburn Schools Music Auxiliary will hold a general meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 12 at 8 p.m. in the WCS library. Please enter by the B doors. This meeting is open to all parents of music students in the Weyburn Junior High or the Comprehensive School. Due to the upcoming Thanksgiving long weekend, there will be very little sporting action this week. On Thursday, Oct. 7, the Eagles football team travels to Regina to take on Regina Martin at 7:15 p.m. All other sports teams will be off for the weekend. The Comp was just notified they will be hosting the 2004 5A girls southern regional volleyball playdowns on either Nov. 12 or 13. This is the highest category in volleyball, and there will be some exceptional play. Over the weekend, the senior boys placed second in their pool but lost in the playoffs in Swift Current, while the senior girls won the tournament in Estevan, the junior boys placed second and the junior girls placed third in their own tournament. In senior girls soccer, the Eagles won two league games in Moose Jaw, defeating Peacock 6-1 and Swift Current 4-0. |
