Comp girls' soccer squad scores third straight win

The Comp Eagles girls' soccer team scored their third consecutive victory on Thursday against Moose Jaw Central at Jubilee Park, winning 2-1.

Weyburn was playing "a little ragged" in the first 20 minutes, said coach Scott Benning, giving up the first goal to Moose Jaw. However, Britt Pegg scored a goal to tie up the match at 1-1, and then another goal at the beginning of the second half to win the game.

The Eagles played awesome defence in the second half, said Benning, as they were facing a very strong wind blowing against them.

He noted that Pegg is now the leading scorer in the Moose Jaw Tier 1 girls' soccer league, with 12 goals in eight games.

The Eagles also played a home game against Moose Jaw Vanier at Jubilee Park yesterday, Oct. 12. Results are not available due to publication deadlines.

Weyburn has one final regular season game in Caronport on Thursday, Oct. 14. They then host Yorkton Sacred Heart for regional playdowns on Saturday, Oct. 16, at 2 p.m. in Jubilee Park.

Weyburn is the only team of their size in their district, so they must defeat Yorkton - the champion from another district - to qualify for provincials at the end of October.

Even if Weyburn loses to Yorkton, however, the Eagles will begin playoffs for the Moose Jaw Tier 1 High School girls' soccer league on Monday, Oct. 18.
